Money Market impressive in Boxing Day Sprint
After finishing second behind the highly rated foreigner Of A Revolution in the US$100,000 Bruceontheloose Sprint on December 6, 2025, Money Market returned to winning ways with a dominant performance in the $1.25-million Boxing Day Sprint on Friday, December 26.
The Gary Subratie-trained Money Market, ridden by Dane Dawkins, brushed aside rivals in the Overnight Allowance contest over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m), winning by 2 ¼ lengths with a time of 1:20.0 (23.4 x 48.2 x 1:13.3). Supremasi (Dane Nelson) was second and Huntsman (Jaheim Anderson) finished third.
Subratie was very pleased with his charge’s effort.
“He came out of the Bruceontheloose Sprint three weeks ago good and so I decided to run him back here. He came down in class to Overnight Allowance level, making this race was just perfect for him,” Subratie said in a post-race interview.
“Dane [Dawkins] knows that horse inside out. We have always watched him race and he was on the headline or sitting close and not running past anybody. But we tried something in the Bruceontheloose Sprint, it worked and so we went back to the same plan — just don’t rush him and save him for the last part of the race and he ran really well,” Subratie further explained.
Money Market was held off the pace early as he bided his time behind Commander Z (Tajay Suckoo), A Gift From Ben (Ramon Nepare), Huntsman, and Supremasi down the backstretch. Approaching the half-mile (800m) turn, Money Market made his move, rounding horses and slipping into third place behind A Gift From Ben and Huntsman.
With an explosive kick in deep stretch, he powered past rivals to win the Boxing Day Sprint easily to register his second win from 12 starts this season.
Money Market is bred by Successful Native out of the Dance Master mare Soca Dancer.
