Cavalier lose third straight, Montego Bay maintain lead in JPL

Defending champions Cavalier dropped out the top six of the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday after being edged 1-0 by Portmore United at Ferdie Neita Park for their third consecutive loss.

The top four teams all scored wins while Waterhouse replaced Cavalier in the top six after beating 10-man Treasure Beach 1-0 in the late game played at Drewsland.

Leaders Montego Bay United blanked Molynes United 3-0 at Jarrett Park and moved to 45 points, seven more than second-placed Racing United who came from a goal down at halftime to beat Spanish Town Police 3-1.

Chapelton Maroons also lost for a third straight time, going down 2-0 to Mount Pleasant FA, while Harbour View FC and Tivoli Gardens played out a 2-2 draw.

Tarick Ximines scored in the 68th minute for Portmore United who snapped a three-game run of draws as they improved to 36 points while Cavalier fell to seventh place, stuck on 26 points but with two games in hand.

Montego Bay extended their dominance over Molynes for a sixth straight victory, conceding just a single goal over that run.

Nashordo Gibbs opened the scoring in the 18th minute after being left unmarked at the right post and volleying a lofted cross from Lucas Lima Correa past goalkeeper Darren Donaie. Brian Brown made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when he was picked out by Jourdain Fletcher just inside the Molynes United 18 yards box and slotted home to the right of Donaie. Brown returned the favor in the 67th minute when he found Fletcher on the left hand side of the Molynes United area, and the latter side stepped a challenge before firing high into the top of the goal.

Tajay Grant scored a second half double to lead Racing to a win, ending three straight draws, as they recovered from going behind in the first half. Andre Clennon gave Spanish Town Police FC the lead after 25 minutes but Racing drew level in the 48th minute when Grant scored the first of his double. Nickyle Ellis sent Racing ahead in the 61st minute before Grant completed his brace in the 70th minute.

Raheem Edwards scored a double for Mount Pleasant as they handed Chapelton a third straight loss, scoring in the first and 81st minutes.

At the Anthony Spaulding Complex, Harbour View came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Tivoli Gardens in Lenworth Hyde’s first game as coach. Nickalia Fuller gave Tivoli Gardens the lead in the 13th minute but Roshawn Oldfield equalised in the 20th minute. Fuller restored Tivoli’s lead in time added at the end of the first half but Harbour View claimed a point when Oquassa Chong came off the bench to score late in time added in the second half.

Waterhouse FC won their third in a row, edging Treasure Beach 1-0 with Colorado Murray scoring a second half penalty. Treasure Beach were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Richard Brown was shown his second yellow card in the 32nd minute.

Sunday’s Results
Harbour View 2, Tivoli Gardens 2
Montego Bay United 3, Molynes United-0
Portmore United 1, Cavalier SC- 0
Spanish Town Police FC 1, Racing United-3
Chapelton Maroons 0, Mt Pleasant FA-2
Waterhouse FC-1, Treasure Beach FC-0
