Fiery protest over deplorable Manchester road
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Frustrated taxi operators and residents used debris to block the Somerset main road in Manchester over deplorable road conditions on Monday morning.
They claim that the road has deteriorated over the years due to overladen trucks spilling cement and weakening the surface.
The road links several communities in north west Manchester to Mandeville.
Scores of commuters were forced to walk for miles to access transportation due to the road block.
Up to midmorning police and firefighters were in the community clearing the roadway.
The residents are calling on their political representatives to address the deplorable road conditions and hold to account heavy duty vehicle operators.
