Jheanel Dixon: Turning change into opportunity

THERE’S a quiet confidence that comes from knowing you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. For Jheanel Dixon, a Sagicor Life advisor, that place is with the people she helps every day, guiding them towards security, balance, and peace of mind.

She has always been drawn to helping others, first behind a pharmacy counter, serving others with care, and now through the purpose of financial advising, where her impact reaches further and lasts longer. Her shift from science to service was a calling, one that gave her purpose beyond herself and allowed her to touch lives in ways she never imagined.

Born and raised in St Thomas, Dixon’s early years were shaped by her drive for excellence. She attended Morant Bay High School before completing sixth form at St Andrew High School for Girls, one of Jamaica’s leading institutions for young women. Her passion for helping others led her to study pharmacy at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), later earning a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Suffolk.

Before joining Sagicor, Dixon worked as a registered pharmacist with the National Health Fund, dedicating herself to community health and patient care. But a major turning point in her life led her to reconsider her purpose.

“After going through a very transitional period, I realised I needed to be more intentional with my life and decisions,” she shared. “That’s what led me to Sagicor.”

Since stepping into her role as an advisor, Dixon describes the journey as “a beautiful one”. She has discovered fulfilment not only in helping clients secure their financial futures but also in forming genuine connections.

“Being an advisor allows me to meet people from all walks of life,” she said. “As a lover of people and their stories, that’s a real perk. It’s also helped me develop resilience and learn to pause to ‘smell the roses’ along the way.”

Her work is deeply personal. In 2020, Dixon became a mother to her son, Jahdani, who remains her greatest source of inspiration. “He’s one of my biggest ‘whys’. I strive for excellence because I want to set an example for him, and for anyone reading, that success is possible through faith, perseverance, and hard work.”

That example has already made an impact. She fondly recalls a Saturday when she brought her son to her office, and he saw her photo displayed on the branch wall among Sagicor’s top performers. “He looked at my picture and said, ‘Mommy, when I grow up, I want to work like you and win all those prizes’’ In that moment, I felt so proud, not because of the awards themselves, but because my son wanted to emulate the values behind them.”

Like many professionals, Dixon’s journey has not been without challenges. Balancing motherhood, work, and self-care requires intention and discipline. But through it all, her faith and her focus on maintaining a “winning mindset” keep her grounded.

When it comes to her clients, Dixon’s approach is holistic and heart-centred. “People will always remember how you make them feel,” she said. “I take time to understand my clients beyond their financial goals, and I always aim to teach, breaking down complex topics so they feel empowered and equipped.”

Her most rewarding part of being a Sagicor Life advisor lies in the small moments: a grateful message from a client, a successful claim payout, or simply knowing she’s made a difference.

“When clients tell me that a meeting with me has made them better, that’s when I know I’m living my purpose,” she said.

Looking to the future, Dixon envisions expanding her impact through mentorship and coaching, helping others break free from limiting beliefs and embrace their full potential.

“One of my life’s purposes is to help people see themselves, their true potential, and to know that anything is possible. Some things just take longer.”

Now 35 years old, Dixon continues to build a life and career grounded in purpose and passion. As she grows within the Sagicor family, she hopes to leave behind a legacy of limitlessness, faith, and possibility, one which inspires her clients, her son, and all who cross her path to dream bigger and live boldly.
