Shenese Walker wins 60/200m double at ACC Indoor Championships

Shenese Walker was a double gold medalist in the women’s 60m and 200m as the ACC Indoor Championships at the Track at New Balance in Boston on Saturday.

The Florida State University (FSU) senior broke the meet record in the 60m which she won for a third straight year, running 7.13 seconds in the final, under the 7.15 seconds set in 2000 by FSU’s Yonya Carter.

After placing third in 2024 and second last year, she won the 200m in 22.98 seconds, just off her personal best 22.96 seconds.

Two other Jamaican women, both from Clemson University, ended their indoor eligibility on a high: Shantae Foreman won the women’s triple jump for the third straight year with 13.20m and Oneka Wilson won the women’s 60m hurdles for a fourth straight time in 8.12 seconds after running 8.10 seconds in the prelims.

Kimeka Smith, also of Clemson, was second in the women’s shot put with a personal best 16.90m, second best all time at Clemson.

Demario Prince of Baylor was second in the men’s 60m hurdles in a personal best and programme record 7.46 seconds, beating his own previous best 7.57 seconds set at Texas A&M last year while Daniel Clarke of Texas Tech was fifth with 7.84 seconds.

Brandon Lloyd of Arizona State was second in the men’s shot put with 18.83m and Jhavor Bennett of Kansas State had an indoor personal best 16.05m for fourth in the men’s triple jump.

At the Big East Indoor Championships held at DePaul University in Chicago, Malaika Cunningham of the University of Villanova retained her women’s high jump with 1.73m. Cunningham was second indoors last year and won the Big East outdoor title.
