Don Kwesi, who has been in top form while showing consistency at middle distances and the ability to handle different pace scenarios, appears the right choice in this afternoon’s $1.25-million Linval McFarlane Trophy race.

Owned by Kwanzi Bernard and trained by Barrington Bernard, the four-year-old bay colt has had two runs at this Overnight Allowance level, finishing third and second, respectively.

He was 3¾ lengths third behind Wall Street Trader and Oil Machine at today’s distance of six and a half furlongs (1,300m) on February 18 and was second by 2¼ lengths behind
Neo Star at nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on March 7.

Don Kwesi has been training well, having galloped five furlongs (1,000m) in 1:00.2 on Sunday, March 22. He’s poised to deliver a winning effort.

While Don Kwesi is the favourite, he has stiff competition. Magnificent Fore, Fortuna Belle, Sensational Soul, and Linguist are all capable of taking the win.

The three-year-old and upward contest is positioned as the 10th and final race on the day with a post time of 5:40 pm. First race is at 11:45 am.

Despite struggling in recent outings, Magnificent Force (USA) has the pedigree and ability to turn things around. She’s training well and could surprise. She worked 1:02.1 for five furlongs on Saturday, March 28.

With two solid local runs under her belt (third and fourth), Fortuna Belle is looking to make another strong performance. She has also trained well coming into the race, clocking five and a half furlongs (1,100m) in 1:08.4 with five furlongs done 1:03.1 on Saturday, March 28.

Sensational Soul has been working fairly well and deserves respect. Sensational Soul, winner of last year’s 2000 Guineas Classic, should not be denied a winning chance.

Linguist, last year’s Jamaica Oaks winner who makes her seasonal debut here. Linguist is in good form and training well, she could take home this trophy.
