JCF says ‘restriction’ on firearms at entertainment venues to be introduced soon
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has announced that a restriction on firearms at entertainment venues will soon be implemented as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety.
This follows a shooting incident on Sunday night at the Big Wall Revolution event, held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, where three people were shot and injured. Among those hurt were popular podcaster Jhaedee Richards, also known as “Jaii Frais”, a US citizen and a member of an entertainer’s entourage.
In the meantime, the force said it is now arranging a series of meetings with party and event promoters to reinforce security and safety requirements as part of the issuing of permits.
According to the police, about 9:30 pm, a physical altercation developed between patrons at the event. It is further reported that the fracas escalated and gunshots were traded between the two patrons.
When the shooting subsided, three individuals, two of whom were involved in the dispute, had gunshot injuries. They were transported to the hospital for treatment, where Richards was reportedly treated and released into police custody, while the other two remain hospitalised.
The police said two firearms were seized following the incident.
Music producer and manager Jahvel “Jahvy Ambassador” Morrison was also taken into custody.
No charges have been laid as yet, and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
