Mount Pleasant FA secure spot in JPL play-offs

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Mount Pleasant FA became the second team to book their place in the Jamaica Premier League play-offs on Sunday after coming from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Treasure Beach at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.

After being held 1-1 by Harbour View mid-week, Mt Pleasant inched up to 62 points to secure their place alongside leaders Montego Bay United (MBU), who lead with 68 points after beating Racing United 4-1 at Jarrett Park.

Treasure Beach led 2-0 with goals from Jhanni Flemmings in the 32nd minute and Daniel Hardy in the 69th minute before Mt Pleasant FA rallied with two goals in the final 18 minutes to salvage a point as the teams played out a draw for the third time this season.

Cristojaye Daley came off the bench to pull one back for the visitors in the 72nd minute before Raheem Edwards scored the equaliser in the 86th minute with his 18th goal of the season.

MBU won their 20th game of the season with a dominant display against Racers United who slipped two places down the tables after the loss that extended their winless run to eight games.

MBU were off to a fast start and led after 25 minutes with goals from Richardo Ramsey and Deonjay Brown before Timar Lewis added a third in the 36th minute and Deverow McKenzie got the fourth in the 54th.

Former MBU player Odane Nish scored a consolation for Racing United in the 90th minute.

Portmore moved up a spot to third place with 59 points after beating Chapelton Maroons 2-0 at Turners Oval, with an own goal in the 10th minute and Ronaldo Robinson’s 87th-minute goal.

Waterhouse are in fourth, also on 59 points after beating Harbour View 1-0 thanks to Ky-mani Campbell’s stoppage time goal in their game at Harbour View.

Tivoli Gardens beat Dunbeholden FC 2-0 with two late goals, they were gifted the lead via an own goal in the 80th minute before Mickel Graham scored a second in time added on.

Nicholas Nelson scored a first half brace as Molynes United beat Arnett Gardens 3-0 and edged out of the relegation zone.

Nelson scored in the 24th and 35th minutes and Dhumar McLauglin scored the third in the 71st minute.
