Peter Higgins appointed to Professional Football Jamaica Limited finance committee

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) has appointed Peter Higgins as chairman of its finance committee in a move the organisation says is reinforcing its commitment to strong governance, financial discipline, and strategic oversight.

Higgins, a senior executive at the National Commercial Bank (NCB), brings with him a wealth of experience spanning several decades in the financial services sector, PFJL says,

In a statement on Monday, the organisation lauded his expertise in corporate

finance, risk management, and strategic planning which it said is expected to provide invaluable leadership to the finance committee as PFJL continues to navigate a dynamic and evolving football business landscape.

In addition to Higgins’ appointment, the board has also added to the

committee Andrew Thomas, a qualified accountant and current director of PFJL.

Highlighting his complementary skillset grounded in financial reporting, compliance,

and organisational governance PFJL says his dual perspective as both a finance professional and a board member positions him well to contribute meaningfully to the committee’s deliberations and execution of its mandate.

The organisation says the appointments come at a time when PFJL is focused on enhancing its financial structures, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term sustainability across all areas.

Interim Chairman Donovan White underscored the importance of thes strategic additions, noting that the board acted decisively to address immediate and medium-term priorities.

“In assessing these appointments, the board responded urgently to the need for the organisation to have solid guidance on a number of critical near-term objectives,” White stated.

“We wanted to ensure that we have the right leadership and expertise in place to guide our financial decisions during this important period.”

White further emphasised that strengthening internal governance structures remains a central pillar of PFJL’s broader strategic framework, particularly as the league continues to expand its commercial footprint and deepen stakeholder engagement both locally and internationally.

PFJL CEO Owen Hill provided an update on the upcoming playoff schedule, confirming key dates and venues for what promises to be a thrilling postseason.

“This year’s playoffs will commence on May 6, with the final scheduled for May 24,” Hill announced.

“Matches will be played on Wednesdays and Sundays at the National Stadium, providing a

consistent and accessible schedule for our fans. We anticipate a highly competitive playoff series, showcasing the very best of Jamaican football.”

Hill also highlighted the league’s continued efforts to expand its digital reach and enhance the fan experience through accessible broadcasting options.

“Jamaicans and JPL fans both at home and abroad will have subscription access to all playoff matches via JPLTV on YouTube,” he added. “This platform allows us to connect with our global,” he said.
