WATCH: St James residents block roads leading from Gutters to Hampton

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Frustrated by deteriorating roads and the lack of action to repair a major breakaway on the Springmount roadway, residents have taken to blocking the roads.

Starting early Monday morning, various objects were used to block the major route connecting northern and southern St James.

This has left children unable to attend school and stranded adults unable to reach the downtown Montego Bay area.

The residents say the condition of the road has become increasingly dangerous since Hurricane Melissa passed through in October 2025, and they are demanding immediate action from the authorities.

They are firm in their stance that the road issue must be addressed, and have vowed to continue their protests unless they are given assurances that the situation will be resolved.

St James residents have mounted road blocks to protest the lack of action to fix a breakaway on the Springmount roadway.
