WATCH: Man dies in Manchester crash, five injured
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A man succumbed to injuries he sustained during a two-vehicle crash on the Winston Jones Highway in Mandeville on Monday.
The crash also resulted in five people being hospitalised overnight.
Police and relatives identified the fatal crash victim as Dave Ebanks Jr otherwise called “DJ”. Relatives said he worked at Holsum Bakery in Williamsfield, Manchester.
Preliminary reports are that about 9:00 pm Ebanks was driving a Honda Integra motorcar uphill when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Toyota Wish operated as a public passenger vehicle. Police said the Toyota motorcar was travelling downhill with five occupants.
Ebanks was removed from the mangled vehicle and transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Firefighters and the police responded to the crash scene and assisted in coordinating the transport of the occupants of the taxi to hospital.
Police at the scene pointed to an unbroken white lane and said speeding and improper overtaking were likely contributing factors to the crash.
The Manchester Traffic Department and Area Three Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit are probing the incident.
