Firefighters were called to the scene at 7:26 am. On their arrival two elderly people, a man and a woman, were seen suffering from injuries. Firefighters administered c-collars on both the man and woman. They were subsequently transported to hospital.
Passersby say the vehicle involved in the crash was not visible from the main road. Up to 8:00 am firefighters also said they were yet to ascertain details on the crash. Police have since been deployed to the scene to conduct an investigation.
The Spur Tree main road links Mandeville and its environs to St Elizabeth and points west. Heavily laden, slow-moving trucks often hinder traffic on the steep, difficult hill, and there have been a number of fatal crashes involving trucks and cars over the years.
