Two killed by police in alleged early morning shootout in Portland

PORTLAND, Jamaica — Police have confirmed the killing of two men following an alleged shootout in the Sherwood Forest District in Portland on Wednesday.

The double fatal shooting reportedly occurred during a targeted operation around 5:15 am when lawmen conducted a raid at the home of a man who is on bail for kidnapping and robbery.

According to the police, further information suggested that other men were staying at the premises who were believed to be directly involved in a murder committed in January.

Upon entering a section of the house, the cops said one of two armed men fired at the police team while the other pointed a weapon at them.

The police took evasive action and fired in the men’s direction. The two men were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. They have not yet been identified.

Two firearms were allegedly recovered from the men— one silver and black Taurus G3 pistol with one magazine and three rounds, and one silver and black Taurus pistol with a damaged serial number and one round.

No member of the police team was injured.
