Digicel Foundation provides $1m to St Christopher’s School for the Deaf
THE Digicel Foundation has provided a $1-million grant to St Christopher’s School for the Deaf in St Ann to support recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa last October.
The hurricane caused extensive damage to the hillside campus, affecting the majority of the school’s infrastructure.
Several classrooms were severely damaged, the library was destroyed with books lost, and multiple roofs blown off. As a result, the school was forced to operate classes from a single space in the dormitory, where students now learn, eat, and carry out daily activities.
During a recent relief visit Digicel Foundation partnered with Open Door Jamaica Foundation, which, in collaboration with NCB Foundation, provided boxes of essential non-perishable food items and hygiene supplies to students and staff.
Digicel Foundation also delivered care packages with food and water, along with backpacks filled with school supplies for the children.
The $1-million donation will go towards rebuilding damaged infrastructure and purchasing critical items needed to restore regular teaching and learning at the institution.
