Body cam clash!
Chang slammed as experts cite global evidence contradicting his stance
CLAIMS by Minister of National Security and Peace Dr Horace Chang that members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) cannot wear body cameras when going on operations where they are confronting armed criminals has been scoffed at by a former deputy commissioner of police and one of the island’s leading human rights group.
Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing on Wednesday, Chang charged that, “This thing that you must wear a camera when you going to look for a man who has a M16 that’s firing 60 rounds per second is a crazy idea.”
But on Thursday, executive director of Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ) Mickel Jackson said it has learnt from the experiences of police departments across the United States that Chang’s position does not stand up, while security consultant Mark Shields said the minister’s position is not supported by global evidence.
