Wickie Wackie residents cry foul over dirty water
Dear Claudienne,
I am writing once again to voice the continued displeasure with NWC regarding a long-standing matter which has gone unresolved for over a year. The poor water quality within the community of Wickie Wackie which was first brought to the media’s attention in January 2025 remains ongoing.
A new pipeline had been laid a couple months ago; however, the roads that are across from this new pipeline are yet to be connected, leaving us with the same dirty water, as we are still connected to the significantly degraded pipeline which was said to be obsolete.
I have made multiple calls and spoken to two supervisors with the last communication being on Dec 15, 2025 and February 5, 2026. On all occasions I have been told someone will call me to have the issue resolved, but to date I have yet to receive a call back from any representative from NWC.
After being told by the NWC for months upon months that “material is unavailable”, on February 3, 2026, while driving home, I noticed that a meter was connected from the new pipeline to the corner lot on my avenue that someone recently started prepping to build on.
The situation has become a serious health hazard as my nephew, who lives on the other side of the house, has two six-month-old babies. How can anyone continue to live under these conditions while paying for a service they are unable to use?
I have attached a picture of the current state of the water flowing through the pipes; you can’t wash, cook or clean with this contaminated substance. We have to be going to the laundromat to buy water, which comes at an additional cost.
I am urgently seeking your assistance in having this matter resolved.

Dear N E
Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the NWC and notes that a significant portion of Wickie Wackie now has drinkable water running from the pipes as the corporation has installed plastic pipes as a replacement for the old clay pipes.
The NWC said that it has also been encouraging households in the area with outstanding water bills to make payments so that they can be put on the new pipeline.
We wish you all the best.
