‘Big Stone’ loses cancer battle
Claude “Big Stone” Sinclair, the benevolent music producer and community activist, died at Kingston Public Hospital on April 28 at age 69.
His cousin, Everton Taylor, confirmed his passing.
Taylor told the Jamaica Observer that Sinclair had been admitted to the hospital two weeks ago being treated for stage 4 prostate cancer which he had battled several years.
Sinclair was open about his health challenges. He posted many videos detailing his journey and encouraged men to get regular medical checks.
In recent years, the Montego Bay-born Sinclair was involved in charity events in Trench Town, located in the constituency of St Andrew Southern. He organised shows in that community, including the One Love Jamaica Concert in February 2020, as well as the Junior Byles Benefit Concert at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in Kingston in July 2019.
In an interview with the Observer promoting the One Love Jamaica Concert, Sinclair said St Andrew Southern was chosen as its site because, “Trench Town and the surrounding communities have seen their fair share of violence, murders, etc. The children really need this healing because they are traumatised.”
A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, he was also founder of Big Stone Records, which produced songs by artistes such as Richie Spice, Sizzla, Nesbeth, and George Nooks.
Claude “Big Stone” Sinclair is survived by his wife, two children, four sisters, and one brother.
