Race to the top
Sunday, May 3 will see a gathering of Jamaica’s finest motorsports competitors in Manchester to test their mettle at Hill Top Badness, an event that turns Old Melrose Hill into a tarmac hill climb.
“Expect high-octane energy from a diverse roster of drivers. We are bridging the gap between genres, bringing you the best of drift, rally, circuit, and drag racing all in one area,” Tsana Wint, event conceptualiser and organiser, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC)-sanctioned hill climb will follow the rules as per sprint events, giving competitors three timed runs at the course. The top ten fastest times will then be given one last run to prove who is the ‘Baddest Hill Climber’ on the island.
Cars will be classified as the sprint regulations dictate.
“This event serves as the ultimate proving ground, where all motorsport genres collide to see who truly reigns supreme,” added Wint.
She said that the event was created out of her passion for motorsports, which began as a spectator. She has since moved through the ranks, as a co-driver, as one of the few female drivers, and now as an event organiser.
Wint now hopes to restart motorsports in her home parish of Manchester. She thanked racing icon David Summerbell Jr, former JMMC Chairman Steven Gunter, Montegonian motorsports stalwart Dean Corrodus, the National Land Agency, and the National Works Agency for making Hill Top Badness a reality.
