Sandals Resorts sponsors Steer Town Community Football League
Sandals Resorts will be the main sponsors of the 2026 staging of the Steer Town Community Football League.
The announcement was made during the press launch inside the Louis Grant Conference Centre boardroom at Sandals Dunn’s River in St Ann on Thursday.
This year’s staging, which is slated to begin in July, will see eight teams participating. The teams will be divided into two zones with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals. The league is being run by the Steer Town Community Organization.
“[Sandals is] proud to stand alongside the Steer Town Community Organization in bringing this competition to life. This partnership is not new but a genuine desire to continue the upliftment of the community of Steer Town,” Kevin Clarke, Sandals Dunn’s River’s general manager, said during the launch.
He added: “Football has always been more than just a sport. It is a unifying force. It creates discipline, builds character, and gives young men a positive outlet to showcase their talent, energy, and passion. This league will provide exactly that — a structured, meaningful space where skills can be sharpened, teamwork can flourish, and dreams can begin to take shape.”
The general manager highlighted Sandals’ commitment to community development.
“As a company, we take our role as good corporate neighbours very seriously. Our investment in this league is a reflection of our belief that strong communities create a stronger Jamaica. When our young people are engaged, inspired, and supported, everyone benefits,” Clarke reasoned.
Steer Town Community Organization President Junior Wallace thanked the resort for its sponsorship and said he looked forward to a continued harmonious working relationship. He said that over the years the league had been a unifying instrument in community.
“We have always been seeking a corporate sponsor and we are over the moon that Sandals is on-board. They have been working with us on a number of events in the community and this sponsorship is really appreciated.”
Wallace said that the competition starting after the FIFA World Cup was a strategic one when the interest in the sport would be at an all-time high.
St Ann Football Association President Danny Beckford said his group was happy to have Sandals on board, as the Steer Town Community League has the potential to become bigger.
“The football association welcomes Sandals back to St Ann football and we wholeheartedly endorse the competition,” he said, while pointing to the spin-off benefits to businesses in the community.
