Mixed market performance in April
STOCKS continued to trade mixed in April as more than two-thirds of stocks ended the month lower than where they started, with less value transacted on the market.
According to the JSE’s April 2026 report, 40 stocks traded lower for the month compared to 12 stocks that were up in April. NCB Financial Group Limited (NCBFG) was the best performing stock as it increased 20 per cent to $51.81 with only two other stocks rising by more than ten per cent. First Rock Real Estate Investments Limited was the worst performing stock for the month as it declined 20 per cent to $8.84 per share.
Despite the number of trades rising 28 per cent to 25,270 trades, the value of stocks traded slid by more than half from $7.03 billion to $3.23 billion, reflecting fewer trades amongst the larger market cap stocks.
For the first four months of 2026, West Indies Petroleum Terminal Limited (WIPT) moved up 739 per cent from $1.31 to $10.99. WIPT listed by introduction in December 2025 at $0.50 with a limited number of shares available post listing. TransJamaican Highway Limited was the second-best performing ordinary stock as it jumped 50 per cent to $6.92. 17 ordinary stocks were up at the end of April.
VM Investments Limited (VMIL) is the worst-performing stock year-to-date (YTD) as it declined 22 per cent to $1.66. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy Limited, Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited and Portland JSX Limited all declined by more than 20 per cent. The value traded for the comparative period was down 65 per cent to $13.03 billion with 20 per cent more trades being conducted in the period.
Junior Market
MFS Capital Partners Limited was the best performing Junior Market stock in April as it grew 22 per cent to $0.61. Only 15 stocks advanced for the month with Lumber Depot Limited as the tenth best gainer only up 2.56 per cent.
Gwest Corporation Limited was the worst performing Junior Market stock in April as it dipped 34 per cent to $0.65. There were 32 stocks that went down for April which had $1.23 billion in value traded for the month.
Jetcon Corporation is the best performing ordinary stock on the Junior Market in 2026 as it rose 67 per cent to $2.51. MFS Capital also advanced by more than 56 per cent with 17 stocks advancing for the first four months.
Kintyre Holdings (Ja) Limited was the worst-performing stock in 2026 as it declined 68 per cent to $0.24. There were 29 stocks that went down in the first four months as value traded went down seven per cent to $1.82 billion.
USD Market
Productive Business Solutions Limited was the best performing stock on the USD market which had five winners, four losers and Sterling Investments Limited holding firm for the month. Despite there being more winners and 22 per cent more trades for the month, value traded declined 36 per cent to US$1.23 million.
TransJamaican Highway Limited is the best-performing USD stock for the first four months as it remains up 46 per cent to US$0.0449. There were five other stocks which are up in 2026 while Proven Group Limited declined 30 per cent with three other stocks trading lower at the end of April. However, the value traded for the first four months of US$13.79 million exceeded the entire US$13.19 million traded for 2025.
