The Multispace launches affordable space for creatives
CREATIVE workspace options in Kingston are expanding, with more affordable offerings entering the market as demand grows among content creators and small businesses.
The latest addition is The Multispace, launched by Infinity Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) at 7 Shortwood Road. The 1,300-square-foot facility is targeting content creators, small businesses and event hosts, providing a multi-purpose environment for activities ranging from content production to workshops and events. The space is designed to support users from ideation through to execution, offering a collaborative setting for creatives who may not have access to professional environments or are unable to host clients in their homes.
While several facilities in Kingston focus on co-working, stakeholders say purpose-built creative spaces have remained limited and often priced beyond the reach of early-stage entrepreneurs without established income streams. Following shifts brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, more individuals have begun exploring entrepreneurial ventures and creative projects, but access to affordable venues remains a key barrier.
“We don’t have many spaces that are affordable, appropriate and adequate for a budding entrepreneur, so this space brings to the table something that is desperately needed for our creative entrepreneurs,” said Harold Davis, acting CEO of the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC).
Infinity IMC, which has traditionally focused on event planning and marketing, developed the concept after encountering challenges sourcing suitable venues for clients, particularly inconsistencies in quality and setup. The space was initially used internally but has since been opened to the wider creative community.
The Multispace includes options for photography, videography, a built-out podcast set and event hosting, and has already been used for workshops, sip-and-paint sessions and mobile spa businesses. It operates on a pay-as-you-go model, allowing users to pay only for the time and facilities they need. Introductory rates start at $4,000 per hour, depending on the area used. The FX Studio, which includes backdrops and lighting, starts at $6,500 per hour; the Infinity venue space at $10,000 per hour; and the Ideator room at $5,000 per hour. Volume packages are also available, with additional services such as photography, videography and event planning offered by an in-house team.
“At the core, the Multispace is an extension of the wider marketing and events planning work we do at Infinity IMC, so persons who use the space can be confident that we can work with them to transform ideas into execution,” CEO Shanoy Coombs told the Jamaica Obsever.
The offering enters a market where existing options vary widely in price and capability. Kingston Creative, for example, offers a small podcast room for approximately $5,000 per hour without a video component, while other facilities such as Creative Factory can start at around $12,000 per hour for space only, without equipment.
