THE CB Facey Foundation marked Read Across Jamaica Day 2026 with a literacy initiative in partnership with the Jamaica Library Service at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Library.

In recognition of the day, 10 team members from Pan Jamaica Group (PJG) and Pan Jamaica Property Company (PJPCo) volunteered their time as guest readers, engaging approximately 60 students from Lalyce Gray Basic School — one of the foundation’s long-standing partner schools — in an interactive storytelling experience.

Students were divided into small groups and guided through engaging stories, followed by a lively trivia session that encouraged them to reflect on what they had learned.

The activity not only reinforced comprehension skills but also created a fun, participatory environment where students were rewarded with prizes for their responses.

“This initiative reflects our belief that exposure to literature and creative expression at an early age is critical to shaping confident, curious young minds,” said Gayon Douglas, executive director of the CB Facey Foundation.

“Through the CB Facey Foundation, we are committed to supporting programmes that strengthen both education and the arts, ensuring that Jamaica’s children have access to opportunities that inspire learning, imagination and personal development,” added Douglas

He pointed out that the initiative also reflects the foundation’s broader, sustained investment in literacy and learning.

The Jamaica Library Service is a 2026 grant recipient, receiving $2 million to support its national reading competition; an effort aimed at strengthening reading skills and fostering a culture of literacy among Jamaicans of all ages.

According to Douglas, at the same time, the foundation continues to deepen its impact at the school level through its ongoing partnership with Lalyce Gray Basic School.

“Through annual support for infrastructure and development projects, the CB Facey Foundation is helping to create an environment where students are better equipped to learn, grow and thrive — bringing to life its commitment to advancing education and nurturing creativity across Jamaica,” said Douglas.
