Arsenal eye title, West Ham fight drop this weekend

Two storylines at the London Stadium on Sunday as Arsenal arrives five points clear at the top of the table; West Ham are fighting to avoid relegation. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s title hopes are hanging by the thinnest of threads when they host a Brentford side harbouring hopes of playing European football next season.

Event # 1 – EPL – Man City vs Brentford – 11:30 AM

It is advantage Arsenal in the Premier League title race after Manchester City dropped points in a breathtaking 3-3 draw at Everton on Monday ending their six-match winning run and handing favourites Arsenal the advantage once again. With that said, Manchester City will welcome a return to their Etihad Stadium where they gone unbeaten in each of their last 15 Premier League matches (W12 D3) – scoring at least twice in 13 of those 15 matches – since losing 2-0 at home to Tottenham back in August last year. Interestingly though, while City holds a strong winning record against Brentford with eight wins from eleven matches in all competitions, these clashes are typically tight affairs – every win for Man City since 1997 has been by one goal or a two-goal margin.

Meanwhile, Brentford ended a six-match winless run — their longest in the Premier League this season (D5 L1) — when they beat Relegation threatened West Ham 3-0 last weekend and, in the process, reigniting their push for European qualification. With that said, Brentford won’t fear going to the Etihad Stadium and securing a result as they have scored on two of their last three trips to that venue. However, Brentford rarely win on the road which might be cause for concern as they are winless in their last four away matches in the League.

Key Stats

● Man City is on a 12-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and have won six of their last seven in all competitions.

● Brentford is winless in four consecutive away matches in the league but have lost just one of their last nine matches in all competitions within 90 minutes.

● Both sides – Manchester City has won five of their last six matches against Brentford.

The betting tip: Man City win.

Event # EPL – West Ham vs Arsenal – 10:30 AM

Following Manchester City’s entertaining 3-3 draw with Everton on Monday, Arsenal grip on their first Premier League title in more than two decades have tightened and now looks a clear certainty compared to a few days ago when City defeated them to jump to the top of the standing. West Ham, meanwhile, trails Tottenham by a point as both teams are battling to avoid relegation but West Ham can above them with a win, with Tottenham not playing until Monday at home. With that said, West Ham are just a point from safety after their defeat to Brentford last weekend, which was their first defeat since the middle of March and their form at home is promising ahead of Arsenal’s visit as they haven’t lost a match inside 90-minutes since the start of January.

Arsenal arrives at the London Stadium to face West Ham with confidence at an all-time high. Indeed, the Gunners, Arsenal, booked their spot in their first Champions League final in two decades in midweek with a one nil win over Atletico Madrid. However, their Premier League title charge could take a hit when they visit a West Ham side battling relegation coupled with their recent poor away form having won only one of their last five away games and find themselves going up against a London rival with plenty to play for. With that said, Man. City’ draw with Everton in their last outing puts thew Premier League title firmly back in Arsenal’s hands with just three matches remaining, with the Gunners just needing to avoid defeat here.

Key Stats

• West Ham all of their last seven matches in the Premier League has had under 4.5 goals being scored.

• Arsenal has won just one of their last five away matches but have won three of their last five head-to-head clashes with West Ham – all at the Emirates.

• Both sides – West Ham is unbeaten in their last nine home matches and have defeated Arsenal in each of their last two trips to the London Stadium 3-1 and 2-0.

The betting tip: Draw.
