The City of Tamarac is gearing up to host the second annual Yard on the Lawn Music Festival on Saturday, June 6.

The event will take place at the Tamarac Sports Complex and is headlined by dancehall veteran Buju Banton.

In an interview with Observer Online on Thursday, Vice Mayor of Tamarac, Marlon Bolton, who was born in Jamaica, said that the event is the city’s signature celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month.

“Yard on The Lawn is more than entertainment — it is a celebration of Caribbean culture, identity and excellence. Bringing Buju Banton to Tamarac reflects our commitment to creating world-class cultural experiences that unite people from all backgrounds while honoring the rich Caribbean influence that helps shape our city and South Florida,” said Bolton.

The event which made its debut last year, with headlining act Morgan Heritage, will this year also feature performances by Jamaican reggae artist Orale Johnson and Haitian sensation Rutshelle Guillaume, who has amassed more than two million followers on Instagram and over 30 million music streams globally.

Said Bolton, “The city planners are continuing to roll out additional performers and special guests leading up to the event. Patrons can also expect supporting performances from DJs, Caribbean entertainers, cultural performers, and local talent representing the diversity and energy of the Caribbean community.”

Yard on The Lawn was founded and curated by Vice Mayor Bolton.

“Buju Banton’s music has uplifted generations with messages of perseverance, empowerment and truth. We are honoured to welcome a living legend to Tamarac. The overwhelming response to this year’s festival proves that Yard on The Lawn has become something truly special, not just for Tamarac, but for the entire South Florida community,” said Bolton, while sharing why Banton was chosen to headline the event.

“Buju Banton was chosen because he represents excellence, legacy, culture, and global impact. Yard on The Lawn is more than a concert — it is a cultural movement designed to celebrate Caribbean identity and connect generations through authentic music and shared experiences. Buju’s catalogue spans decades and includes music that speaks to perseverance, empowerment, spirituality, resilience, and social consciousness. His influence reaches far beyond reggae and dancehall; he is considered one of the most impactful Caribbean artists of all time.”

Said Bolton, “The festival primarily targets the Caribbean diaspora throughout South Florida and the United States, particularly Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, Guyanese, and broader West Indian communities. However, the event was intentionally created to be multicultural and multigenerational. Last year’s attendance demonstrated strong participation from Caribbean families, young professionals, reggae and dancehall fans, community leaders, millennials and Gen X audiences, and tourists and music lovers from diverse backgrounds.  The festival reflects the diversity of Tamarac itself — a city with a vibrant and growing Caribbean-American population.”

The first staging of Yard on the Lawn attracted more than 8,000 patrons last year.
