Fun in the Son pre-Mother’s Day celebration set for Black River

A Fun in the Son pre-Mother’s Day celebration is slated for Saturday at the Black River Independent Baptist Church, New Town, St Elizabeth.

With gates opening at 5:00 pm, organisers anticipate that the event will bring good cheer to community members as they continue to rebuild. Prior to the main event, there is a kiddies’ treat and health check which begins at 3:00 pm.

“This is part of our ongoing efforts to inspire the communities of St Elizabeth; to believe in themselves (and) choosing faith over fear.

“I was born in Newmarket, St Elizabeth, and have seen in the past, on several occasions, when the community had setbacks from floods and the way in which we rallied back into productivity in this agriculturally blessed parish,” Tommy Cowan of organisers Glory Music told the Jamaica Observer.

He added: “We’re again believing in God the Father through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that we will rise again.”

St Elizabeth was one of the hardest hit parishes by Hurricane Melissa in late October 2025.

The pre-Mother’s Day treat is led through the ministry of Carlene Davis along with the Brown Trio, Orville Sutherland, The Right Band, and Rushing Wind Band. Praise and worship will be led by Zeal Music, while the host pastors are Rev Dr Audley Black and Donna Black.

“The Glory Music team is encouraged by what we are now seeing in the Lewisville, Mocho, and Nightingale Grove areas of New Market, after doing the Fun in the Son Christmas Treat at the Nightingale Grove Baptist Church last December. The crops are growing back, the market in Lewisville is vibrant, people are fixing and rebuilding their homes and businesses (it is) just encouraging,” Cowan said. “With the Mother’s Day Celebration, we wish to remind the mothers that we love them and God loves them, unconditionally, and the values that mothers bring to our communities will never be forgotten.”
