Negril restaurant owner killed, visitor injured in gun attack at establishment
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A Negril restaurant owner was killed and a European tourist seriously injured during a gun attack and robbery at the establishment on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Nashon McGibbon, otherwise known as Bubba. The businessman is from West End in Negril, Westmoreland.
Meanwhile, a 64-year-old medical doctor from the Czech Republic, who was vacationing at a property in Negril, has been hospitalised in serious but stable condition.
The deadly incident took place about 8:40 pm along Norman Manley Boulevard.
Reports are that the visitor had ordered a meal when a motorcycle with two men aboard wearing hoodies drove up. The men walked towards where McGibbon and his customer were seated around a table before pulling handguns and opening fire at McGibbon.
McGibbon reportedly got up and ran before falling in an open field whilst being chased by his attackers.
Following the shooting, the gunmen reportedly took up two bags from the table that contained an undetermined sum of cash before fleeing the scene on the motorcycle.
The visitor, who was shot in the shoulder, was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment while McGibbon was transported to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
