Sakka Club, Reno FC seek redemption after Championships heartbreak
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Days after they were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Championships, Sakka Club Brown’s Town and Reno FC will take on Premier League opponents in Round three of the JFF’s Popeyes Challenge Cup on Tuesday.
Sakka Club BT and Reno FC lost on penalties to Humble Lion FC and Tru-Juice FC respectively in their semi-finals which saw the winners qualify for next season’s Jamaica Premier League.
Sakka Club plays Molynes United at Drax Hall starting at 3:30 pm, while Reno FC will be home to Chapleton Maroons at Llandilo Sports Complex, while Arnett Gardens, who just missed out on a place in the JPL play-offs will host Roaring River of the Jamaica Football Championships at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.
Three more games will be played on Wednesday, losing JPL finalists Cavalier SC tackles the Jamaica Defence Force at Stadium East and losing JPL semi-finalists Mt Pleasant FA and Montego Bay United will play Lime Hall Academy and Meadforest respectively in a double- header at Drax Hall.
The competition is the first national Cup competition since the staging of the Lynx Cup several seasons ago that was won by Portmore United, beating Cavalier SC in the final.
Seven teams were ‘invited’ from the Jamaica Premier League-Arnett Gardens, Cavalier SC, MBU, Mt Pleasant, Chapleton Maroons, Portmore United and Molynes United.
All 18 teams from the Jamaica Football Championships were also included, some of who were eliminated in the first two rounds.
