Thomas believes JWPL favourites Frazsiers Whip will go all the way
AFTER losing consecutive Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) finals with Cavalier FC, Kersha Thomas is confident that on Saturday she will be hoisting the trophy with new club Frazsiers Whip after the championship match against Arnett Gardens FC.
At the end of last season Thomas was among several players who left Cavalier. She found her way to the three-time defending champions where she has fitted well in midfield.
Frazsiers Whip are seeking a fourth-straight hold on the JWPL title after so far dominating yet another season, topping their first-round group and beating Real Mona 6-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
Along the way, the league favourites have scored nearly 70 goals and conceded just five in the process.
Thomas talked up Frazsiers Whip’s chances of making it four titles in a row.
“We are a well-rounded team; there are no weaknesses. We have a lot of talented players on the team and I believe in them,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
She said the team’s success has not come by any stroke of luck.
“We have earned our place in the final. This was no accident, and we trust our preparation and we know that we will complete the job.”
Thomas, who has been playing in the premier league for almost a decade, said she is comfortable playing anywhere on the field but feels her talent is currently being best served in a central midfield role at Frazsiers Whip.
“I have played different positions — on the wing and in the defence as well — but my position is defensive midfield.
“I am always scanning the field to know where my teammates are so as soon as I get the ball I know who to make the pass to.”
Despite only joining the team at the start of this season, she said it was not difficult making friends.
“I get along well with all the other players; we are a good team,” she declared.
