Curtisay gives up dance track
A fan of dance music, Curtisay says creating sounds that get the blood pumping has been his objective since he began recording music 15 years ago. He went for that vibe on Way You Whine, his latest song.
Released in April, it is produced by Los Angeles-based Ahzee, who has similar musical tastes as Curtisay.
They wanted to make a song that blends the party energy of Los Angeles and Kingston.
“The most appealing thing aboutWay You Whine is the uptempo beat, along with the vocals and melodies that makes it stand out right away,” said Curtisay. “My approach to making music is finding that vibe that makes you feel good and lyrics that everyone can relate to. A mix of hard-core dancehall but putting it in a way that it can be appreciated by a wider audience.”
Way You Whine is his first collaboration with Ahzee, who was born in the United States to Guyanese parents.
Since launching his recording career, Curtisay has released songs such as Seasons, Inside, and One Million.
As a songwriter, he contributed Stay With Me to The Cure, the 2015 Grammy-nominated album by Jah Cure.
Born Curtis Brown, Curtisay is from the Sherlock Crescent community of St Andrew, which has produced many dancehall acts, the best known being Cham.
His biggest musical influences have been Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, and Bounty Killer.
