Three-year wait for appeal hearing raises concerns
Tell Claudienne
Dear Claudienne, In 2024 the company for which my husband worked was ordered by the court to pay him $2.5 million. The company appealed the decision but their lawyers have not been able to obtain a date for an Appeal Court hearing.
The grounds of the appeal were filed on January 11, 2024, and the notice of application for stay of execution was filed on January 16, 2024. Could you please find out from the Supreme Court when my husband’s lawyer will get a trial date?
MM
Dear MM
Tell Claudienne contacted the Office of the Chief Justice and the Court Administration Division on the matter. The column notes that the law firms representing the company and your husband had a meeting at the Supreme Court on February 3, 2026. At the meeting your husband’s lawyer was informed that the next court hearing of the matter would be January 18, 2027.
Kadiesh Jarrett Fletcher, director of client services, communication and information at the Court Administration Division, has explained to
Tell Claudienne that on February 3, 2026 what occurred at the court was a case management conference.
“A case management conference was scheduled, and did proceed, and the next court date fixed. The date was convenient to the court and the attorneys involved,” she said.
The next court hearing of the matter will be January 18, 2027.
We wish you all the best.
