Kukudoo’s Jerusalem to be remastered, re-released
Jerusalem, the third album by singer Kukudoo, will be re-released by Tad’s International Record in June, one month after the gospel artiste’s death.
Tad Dawkins, head of that company, told the Jamaica Observer that there are some changes to the 16-song set which was first released in October 2020.
“The big difference is, some of the tracks were remixed, and the full album was remastered,” said Dawkins.
Kukudoo (real name David McDermott) died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Jerusalem was his most ambitious collection of Revival music since switching from dancehall 20 years earlier.
Just before Jerusalem’s release six years ago he spoke about the album in an interview with the Observer.
“I just want Revival music to be more recognisable and more involved in society, and with this album I know it will. Having more collaborations on this album will see it reaching a wider audience,” said Kukudoo then.
Raised in Spanish Town, St Catherine, he started his music career there singing and cutting dub plates for the Excalibur, Stereo Don and Impression sound systems.
After going gospel, Kukudoo released two albums — Time Waits on No Man and In The Middle of The Night.
Dawkins remembers Kukudoo as relatable and easy to work with.
“He was very humble and highly spiritual. [He] loved the revival style of reggae music,” he said.
