Seville impresses in 100m season opener
KINGSTON, Jamaica, (CMC) — World 100 metres champion Oblique Seville opened his season in winning fashion by taking top honours in the men’s event in convincing fashion at the third JAAA/Puma meet at the National Stadium here on Saturday.
Competing in the 21st heat, Seville stormed to victory in 9.96 seconds, finishing well ahead of Sandrey Davison (10.22 seconds) and Adrian Kerr (10.28 seconds).
Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, who won the penultimate heat in a season’s best 10.13 seconds, placed second overall.
In the women’s equivalent, Ashanti Moore copped the top spot in a time of 11.18 seconds. She finished ahead of World Relays gold medallist Jodean Williams, who clocked 11.22 seconds, and national junior record holder Alana Reid, who was timed at 11.31 seconds.
In other results, Tajh Marques White won the men’s 400m in 45.91 seconds, ahead of Kingston College schoolboy Jason Pitter (46.40 seconds) and Reheem Hayles (46.42 seconds).
Samantha Hall was victorious in the women’s discus throw with an effort measured at 60.07 metres and World Indoor Championships medallist Lushane Wilson won the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.16 metres.
