France, Argentina, Belgium World Cup favourites for JFF boss
Since Jamaica did not qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup which is to be held in North America starting June 11, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Michael Ricketts has shared that his favourites to win are France, Argentina and Belgium.
“I like a few teams. I am a fan of Kylian Mbappé, so obviously France is one of them. I like Argentina and I do have a relationship with Belgium so I hope the winner will come from that group,” Ricketts, who is currently in Florida in the United States told the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
Ricketts is currently in the US to support the Jamaica Under-20 team that will play an Under-20 team from Haiti at 9:15pm on Saturday at the Lauderhill Sports Complex. The game was organised by the Caribbean Americas Soccer Association (CASA).
On Sunday, the Under-20 team will play a team in the same age category from Miami United. Other matches will be played on Sunday, including a Jamaica Masters versus Haiti Masters at 5:00pm and the CASA All-stars vs Haiti All-stars.
There will be live entertainment at the event on both days. On Saturday, dancehall artistes Jahshii and Laa Lee will perform for players and spectators. On Sunday, Wayne Wonder and Spragga Benz will pull from their catalogue of hit songs to entertain football fans.
Ricketts shared too, that on the June 11, he will join other presidents of football associations during the World Cup opening game between Mexico and South Africa in Mexico City. Following the game, FIFA will host a summit in Miami. “Then I think we will watch two other games in the U.S.,” Ricketts shared.
