‘I’m thinking Grammy!’

Cashan targets global breakthrough with debut reggae album

Rising Jamaican recording artiste Cashan is preparing to introduce herself to the world with the release of her debut reggae album Here Comes Cashan on June 26.

Cashan’s ambitions for the project are equally bold.

“I’m thinking Grammy,” she declared.

For the singer-songwriter, the project is more than just an album, it is a declaration of who she truly is as an artiste and a reflection of the positive energy she hopes to bring to reggae music.

“Excited is an understatement,” Cashan said when asked about finally sharing the long-awaited project with fans.

The album’s title was carefully chosen to represent a new chapter in her journey.

“I chose Here Comes Cashan because I’m introducing the me that the world needs to know,” she explained.

According to Cashan, the album represents her commitment to authenticity while delivering uplifting messages through music.

“The album represents me being my true self. I am a very positive person. Also, the industry needs more uplifting music, so here comes Cashan,” she said.

Describing the overall sound as “empowering and groovy”, the artiste said the songwriting process flowed naturally, often inspired by the emotions she felt while listening to the instrumentals.

“Honestly, I just wrote what the beats told me to,” she revealed.

Among the album’s tracks, Mama Love holds a particularly special place in her heart.

“I’d say Mama Love because I can’t wait to give my mom the world,” she said.

Another standout track, Sweet Jamaica, celebrates her love for the island and its rich culture.

“I really, really love my country despite all the craziness happening. I was just driving and listening to the instrumental and that’s what I came up with,” she shared.

Cashan also hopes to inspire listeners through songs such as Born Leader, which encourages perseverance and self-belief.

“I want people to feel motivated to accomplish something for themselves, no matter how small it is. I want them to know that slow progress is better than no progress,” she said.

The album boasts an impressive line-up of collaborations, including reggae heavyweight Richie Spice on the track Roaring Lion.

Cashan admitted that securing the collaboration required determination and a little help from an unexpected source.

“I was telling my nail technician that I had sent him a DM and an e-mail and still got no response, but I had to get him on the album. She made a call and got his number,” Cashan recalled.

The experience turned out to be one of the highlights of the project.

“Working with him was fun. I love me some Richie Spice. He’s such a sweet person,” she continued.

The project also features rising reggae star Yaksta on the song Changes.

“Yaksta was perfect for Changes because he’s in the burning fire zone,” she said.

The album also features dancehall artiste Topman, adding another dynamic element to the project’s diverse musical line-up. The collaboration introduces a fresh dancehall flavour to the album while complementing its overarching themes of empowerment, authenticity, and self-expression.

Another notable collaboration comes on One of a Kind featuring veteran reggae deejay Louie Culture. According to Cashan, that partnership developed through a mutual friend.

When asked which song fans will connect with the most, the singer struggled to single out one track.

“Wow, that’s a very hard question. They’ll connect with all of them,” she said confidently.

Cashan’s ambitions for the project are equally bold.

“I’m thinking Grammy,” she declared.

The artiste and her team are already preparing an aggressive promotional campaign surrounding the release. Roaring Lion, featuring Richie Spice, will be released on June 16 along with an accompanying music video. An album launch event is also in the works, while promotional tours are expected to follow.

The full album, Here Comes Cashan, will become available worldwide on June 26.

With its blend of uplifting messages, soulful reggae grooves and collaborations featuring some of Jamaica’s most respected talents, Here Comes Cashan could be the introduction that firmly establishes Cashan as one of reggae’s promising new voices.
