JTTA celebrates emerging talent at youth league finals
KINGSTON, Jamaica — More than 200 student-athletes from across the island competed in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association’s (JTTA) 2026 Preparatory and Primary School League finals at the University of Technology (UTech) Auditorium on Monday.
Among the team champions, Hillel Academy won the preparatory girls title, while AISK captured the preparatory boys crown. Greater Portmore Primary secured the primary girls championship, while Whitfield Primary and Infant School took top honours in the primaryboys division.
In the Champions of Champions competition, Hillel Academy claimed thefemale team title, while Whitfield Primary and Infant School won the male team championship.
Individual winners included Alexandra Montaque of Greater Portmore Primary (Under-11 Girls), Yashme Anderson of Whitfield Primary and Infant School (Under-11 Boys), Axys Johnson of Hillel Academy(Under-13 Girls) and William Lei of AISK (Under-13 Boys).
JTTA president Ingrid Graham praised the standard of competition andthe growth of the sport at the grassroots level.
“The JTTA Preparatory & Primary School League continues to highlight the exceptional talent within our school system. We are proud of every participant and encouraged by the continued growth of youth table tennis at the school level,” Graham said.
She added that the tournament had helped identify outstanding Under-11 and Under-13 players who will represent Jamaica at upcoming championships in Mexico.
JTTA Chief Strategy and Development Officer Aubyn Henry said the programme’s impact extends beyond sport.
“When more than 200 young Jamaicans compete and grow through sport, the impact goes far beyond the table. This league represents opportunity, growth and excellence,” he said.
Meanwhile, JTTA director of sponsorship Lacey Gordon thanked the organisation’s partners for their continued support.
“Our sponsors and partners play a vital role in making this event possible, helping to create opportunities for young athletes to develop and showcase their abilities,” Gordon said.
The JTTA also acknowledged the contribution of its sponsors and partners, noting that their support continues to strengthen youth sport development and expand opportunities for young athletes across Jamaica.
