Mojito eyes Liu Chie Poo glory
The $1.25-million Liu Chie Poo Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over one mile (1,600m), takes centre stage on tomorrow’s 10-race programme.
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the nine runners entered and their chances of winning.
1. THE GENERAL: (5 b h by Northern Giant – Mamma Blossom) — Has no realistic chance of winning.
2. CAPTAIN SPARROW: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Rackam’s Mistress) — Is expected to be left behind in this one.
3. KING PIYE: (5 ch h by Admiral Alex – Jamaican Pharoah) — Can safely be bypassed.
4. INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD: (5 b h by Bold Conquest – My Friend Lucy) — Returns from a four-month break under new management. Intrestntimesahead now takes orders from Peter-John Parsard and has been training really well for his return. Intrestntimesahead is expected to be one of the main contenders to take home this trophy.
5. MOJITO: (6 gr h by Savoy Stomp – Fiftyoneshadesofray) — Finished fifth behind Sir Don in the Saint Cecelia Cup on his seasonal debut on April 18. Mojito has been working well since and, given his class and talent, he can win this.
6. SHEER DELIGHT (USA): (5 dk b h by Girvin – Pantyhose) — Has been struggling of late but is capable enough of a capital effort here.
7. BLUE VINYL: (7 ch h by Bern Identity – Blufield) — Beaten by a length by Is That A Fact over 9 furlongs on May 10. Going a furlong shorter here and working fairly well, Blue Vinyl is expected to challenge for top honours.
8. PROVIDENT: (5 ch h by Sensational Slam – Dream Point) — Is not expected to be a major player here.
9. SUPREMASI: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Beware Baby) — Can only hope for a minor placing.
