Marlon Wright turns life challenges into children’s book on forgiveness
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Almost 20 years ago, Marlon A. Wright went through a challenging period that helped define him as a parent.
It sparked an awareness he wanted to share with others in a similar position.
It was then that the first seeds of The Courage And Kindness Chronicles: The Day We Learn to Forgive were sown. That children’s book, Wright’s first, was released recently.
Through Emily, Andre and Maya, the main characters, young people learn the importance of caring and forgiveness.
“In today’s world, where material things often seem to matter more than emotional connection, I do think children need more guidance when it comes to forgiveness, empathy, and understanding people,” said Wright. “We teach children how to compete, but not always how to heal. This book is my small contribution toward changing that conversation.”
He learned those traits as a youth in Westmoreland. Wright migrated to the United States in the 1990s, serving in the military for 14 years and became an Air Traffic Control instructor.
One of the most trying times of his life was being a single parent.
“The Day We Learn to Forgive’ actually began back in 2009 during one of the lowest points in my life. At the time, I was a single parent raising my son, trying to navigate life, responsibility, pain, growth, and fatherhood all at once,” Wright recalled. “Writing became therapy for me. It started as a deeply personal story inspired by the real moments, struggles, lessons, and emotional challenges my son and I experienced together over the years.”
Over time, his script evolved until 2025, when what became the finished copy was drafted.
Wright says The Courage And Kindness Chronicles: The Day We Learn to Forgive is the first in a 10-part series.
