KINGSTON, Jamaica—Paul Gray emerged as the overall winner of the Lindy Delepenha Golf Classic with 40 points at the Caymanas Golf Course last Saturday.

Gray, who was winning the tournament for the first time, said he knew the course very well which aided his victory.

“I know the course inside out. Today, it played according to how I anticipated it, so it was just one day full of fun and so forth,” said Gray, a Kingston College Old boy going up against a host of Munro College Old boys.

“The whole afternoon was pretty decent. The sun was in, so it was a bit cool. We were worried at first because of the rain, but overall, we never had any stress with the sun, so you were able to just relax and just play golf and have fun,” Gray pointed out. “The course was pretty good. This is my home course, so I knew it”.

The Delepenha Golf Classic is organised by Munro College, and Gray loves the challenge of being a KC past student challenging a host of Munro past students.

“I mean, Munro, I mean, outside of KC, I know Munro have significant vibes, and if I were to rank schools in Jamaica, KC first, Munro second. So today, my whole mindset was to kind of ensure that we kept it same with KC first, Munro second,” Gray taunted.

“They won’t want to hear that, but certainly this is an important tournament. It raises funds for the Munro sports programme in particular, and having been devastated by the hurricane, this particular tournament is very important for the Munro fraternity, hats off to them and the golfing community,” he noted.

“This is kind of like just the whole community spirit, and for Munro, what they represent, you know, we do it today, we’ll do it tomorrow, and for years to come, especially given the name behind the branding of the tournament. Lindy Delapenha, we know this individual; we know how charismatic he was. He played the sport as well, so for us to turn out and play in his honour, as well as the school that he attended is just so significant,” said Gray.
