STS Peter and Paul made it three-consecutive wins as they retained the JISA/GKGI/GK Mutual Fund Prep Championships which was decided in the final event at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Sts Peter and Paul, who won their first title in 2024, repelled a spirited effort from St Andrew Prep, winning by just five points after rattling up 200 points.

St Andrew were second with 195 and Stella Maris finished in third spot with 164. Mount Saint Joseph (114 points) and Emmanuel Christian Academy (108) were the other top five schools.

The top 10 was completed by Mona Prep (98), Our Lady of the Angels (93.5), Vaz Prep (81.5), Belair Prep (78), and Lannaman’s Prep (74).

It was a close battle throughout, with St Andrew Prep entering the last two races trailing by 14 points. They won them both but just fell short of a miraculous win. With four finals remaining, the gap was just three points but St Peter and Paul capitalised on St Andrew not making the Class Three finals in the boys’ and girls’ 4×100 relays and opened up a 14-point lead heading into the last two finals.

St Andrew delivered and won both the 4×200 open finals for 24 massive points.

Entering the last race, St Andrew were trailing by seven points and duly upset the applecart as Sts Peter and Paul were the favourites for the boys’ 4×200 open. However, Sts Peter and Paul rallied for second and picked up 10 valuable points, which were enough for them to be crowned champions for the third time in a row.

Tyler Osbourne of Portmore Missionary Prep secured the Champion Boy award, while the Champion Girl award was shared between Adrianna Bailey of Mount Saint Joseph and Paris White of Stella Maris Prep.

The top rural school was Mount Saint Joseph Prep from Manchester for finishing in fourth spot with 114 points. Stella Maris were the most improved school after finishing third with 164 points. Last year, they were 12th with 57 points.

On Friday evening, Tyler Osbourne of Portmore Missionary captured the Boys’ Class One 100m in 12.31 (+2.0), ahead of Gabriel Johnson of Lannaman’s Prep in 12.35. Dadrique Mebourne of Belair Prep was third in 12.75.

Paris White of Stella Maris struck gold in the Girls’ Class One 100m, stopping the clock at 12.74 (+1.0). Victoria Roache of St Andrew Prep took second in 13.18, with Mahalia Clarke of Lannaman’s third in 13.35.

It was no surprise when 60m record holder Nevaro Gordon of Knox Junior Prep won the Boys’ Class Two 100m in 13.13 for his second gold of the championship. Lucas Young of Sts Peter and Paul Prep was second in 13.21, and Zamir Byfield of St Andrew Prep took third in 13.24.

Khariah Peart of Mount St Joseph won the Girls’ Class Two 100m in 13.39, ahead of Shaneika Shann of Sts Peter and Paul in 13.66. Abigail Sinclair of Stella Maris was third in 13.94. Peat would return and win the 60m in 8.27 seconds.

Justin Stultz of Stella Maris captured the Boys’ Class Three 100m in 14.28, ahead of Yuri Montaqu of Emmanuel Christian Academy in 14.47. Ronaldo Cornwall of Vaz Prep took the bronze with 14.53. Layla Watts of Stella Maris won the Girls’ Class Three event in 15.00 seconds.

In the first final on the third and final day, Jahvin James of Emmanuel Christian Academy took the Boys’ Class One 400m on 1:00.3, just ahead of the Sts Peter and Paul pair of Gysai Hutchinson (1:00.48) and Quid Doglas (1:00.62).

Adriannah Bailey of Mount St Joseph won the Girls’ Class One 300m in 43.80, ahead of her teammate Kenelia Williams in 45.20. Tia-Violet Riley of Vaz Prep was third in 45.89.

Shamota Thompson of Christel House Jamaica threw 37.18m to win the girls’ ball throw open. Peyton Thompson of Belair Prep was second with 33.13m. Tamari Richards of Lannaman’s won the boys’ equivalent with 54.07m

Paris White of Stella Maris was at it again, this time winning the Girls’ Class One 200m in 27.18 while Tyler Osbourne of Portmore Missionary captured the Boys’ Class One 200m in 26.13.

Mona’s James Seaton took the Boys’ Class One long jump title, leaping 5.15m. Adriannah Bailey of Mount St Joseph won her second gold of the meet, capturing the Girls’ Class One 60m hurdles in 10.32 ahead of Danoya Byro of St Andrew in 10.59. Jon-Andre Brown of Our Lady took the Boys’ Class One 60m hurdles in 10.03.

Emmanuel Christian Academy won the boys’ sprint medley relay in 1:54.81 and were well clear of second-placed Mona Prep in 2:00.29. Vaz won the Girls’ Class One 4×100 relay in 54.43, ahead of Stella Maris in 54.70.

St Andrew took the Boys’ Class One 4×100 in 51.44, and with Sts Peter and Paul finishing fifth, St Andrew reduced the lead atop the standings to just three points with six finals remaining. At this point, Sts Peter and Paul were leading with 152 points, with St Andrew second on 149 and Stella Maris down in third spot on 126 as it became a two-horse race at this point.
