McKay Security pleased with performances of sponsored teams vying for Jamaica Football Championship
JASON McKay, chief executive officer, McKay Security, said he was thrilled after watching a pair of late penalties decide Sunday’s nail-biting 1-1 draw between homesters York United and Browns Town Football Club in their Jamaica Football Championship playoff quest.
Both recipients of $1million McKay Security Limited incentives for topping their respective parish leagues, York and Browns Town, winners of the St Thomas Major League and Kingston and St Andrew Football Association’s Championship, respectively, left it late to excite fans at the Xpress Sports Complex.
Homesters York led in the 90th minute off Kemar Beckford’s penalty. However, Nataf Tomlinson equalised from the spot in the fourth minute of added-time for Browns Town, salvaging a point on the road.
McKay, who on Friday, presented York with their $1million cheque for winning the St Thomas Major League, said he is rooting for all three teams that his company sponsored with $1 million incentives for the Jamaica Football Championship playoff series.
“I am really excited that the McKay Security-sponsored teams are giving no quarter in their quest to qualify for the Jamaica Football Championship. This is exactly the intent of the $1m sponsorship. We want teams to give their all,” McKay stated.
York lead the three-team South-Eastern region on two points from as many games after drawing 0-0 at St Catherine Major League winners Cedar Grove last Wednesday.
Browns Town and Cedar Grove are on a point each, both with games in hand, trailing York in the home-and-away series from which the top team will advance – along with North-Eastern, Central and Western playoff winners – to next season’s Jamaica Football Championship, formerly Jamaica football Federation Tier Two, a rung below the Premier League.
During Friday’s presentation, York executive Alfred Wilson reminisced on the club’s days playing ‘A’ League football, noting they were one point away from qualifying for the Premier league some years ago.
“The same year Portmore United made it back to the Premier League, promoted along with University of the West Indies, we were right up there,” said Wilson, adding that McKay’s Security’s $1million sponsorship will go a long way in helping their ambitions.
Meanwhile, In other games, Cross United outscored Vineyard 3-2 off a brace from Rawnie Rampasaul (18th and 55th), Tyrique Henry grabbing the winner in the 90th. Connie Parchment had earlier netted twice, handing Vineyard a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Andre Walcott scored two late goals, 79th and 83rd, in Lucea United’s 5-0 hammering of Russia and Cooper’s Pen blanked Faulkland FC 2-0.
St Ann’s Axum FC rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 at home against St Ann’s King Football Academy in their North-Eastern match. Chemar Lattibeaudiere netted in the 35th, cancelling Kaneil Brown’s 12-th minute goal for King Academy.
