Man fatally shot by police in St Elizabeth, firearm seized
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police in Thornton, St Elizabeth, Friday night.
Police named him as Dwart Ferguson, otherwise called “Dwayne” or “Tavi”, a resident of Thornton.
Senior police sources say that about 9:30 pm, there was a targeted raid in search of Ferguson in Thornton.
Police said Ferguson ran inside a house on the approach of the police and refused to open the door.
The door was breached by the police, and Ferguson was reportedly observed holding a firearm.
Police said Ferguson was instructed to drop the weapon, and he refused while pointing it at cops.
The police said evasive action was taken, and Ferguson was shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said Ferguson was clutching a 9mm pistol. The weapon was seized.
