Buju Banton is Principal For The Day
NEW YORK, USA — Principal For The Day (PFTD), the youth empowerment series hosted by New York DJ and creator DJ Boogz, has run its newest episode featuring reggae icon Buju Banton, filmed at Ascend Public Charter Schools in Brooklyn, New York.
The episode dropped this week.
For decades, Buju Banton has been one of the most respected voices in reggae music, known for songs that speak directly to struggle, resilience, and community. His visit to Ascend brings that same voice into the classroom, where he spent the day as principal, connecting with students through real conversations about identity, purpose, and the power of staying true to where you come from.
The episode arrives during a major moment for Buju Banton, who is currently on tour alongside Stephen Marley and set to release his new album, Too Too Bad, on July 17.
“It was lovely being your principal for the day, and I see what you have to offer to the world. I cannot wait for you children to become adults and come serve this great world of ours and the community,” Buju Banton said to the students.
PFTD is an original series where chart-topping artists, athletes, and cultural icons step into schools as principal for a day. Each episode features motivational talks, hallway surprises, and authentic moments that inspire young people to dream bigger and believe in themselves.
Since its launch, PFTD has filmed episodes at schools across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC, impacting more than 10,000 students and generating over 5.1 million views across social platforms.
Past principals include Bobby Shmurda, Grammy Award winning artiste Wale, Gillie Da Kid, Lola Brooke, and more. You can see everything at pftdshow.com.
“Buju Banton represents something deeper than music. He represents staying rooted, no matter how far you go. For our students to sit in a room with someone like that, and hear directly from him, that is the entire mission of this show,” DJ Boogz said.
