Growing in Love

For somone navigating an unfamilar environment, a welcoming hand can change everything. When Roxanne Kennedy met Tevin Campbell, he didn’t just offer friendship — he unwittingly set the stage for a lifetime of love.

How They Met

Fourteen years before her walk up the aisle, Roxanne was a 13-year-old St Hilda’s High School student, trying to carve out her place in her new surroundings of Steer Town, St Ann. Fortuitously, she was taken under the wing of friend Kendra McBean, whose warm introduction to the neighbourhood helped Roxanne find her footing — and ultimately her soul mate.

“Everyone was always out in the community socialising and playing games. Plus, there was a dance group that would gather every day and practice. I became a part of that crowd and would enjoy the everyday festivities, especially watching the dance rehearsals,” Roxanne shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). “This one guy in particular caught my attention as he was both very handsome and talented. That guy was Tevin.”

Though naturally reserved, Tevin was immediately smitten with Roxanne.

“From the moment I first saw her, I was captivated. I remember thinking, ‘She is absolutely beautiful’. But it wasn’t just her beauty that caught my attention. It was the warmth in her voice, her kindness, and the gentle way she carried herself,” Tevin revealed.

As their friendship blossomed, hints of a mutual attraction began to surface — though both were too shy to make the first move. Ultimately, it was Tevin’s cousin, Courtney Clemetson, who stepped in to play matchmaker and brought them together.

“He actually approached us and asked both of us if we liked each other. We both said yes but he went further and asked her, ‘Do you like him as a friend or more?’ When she said more, everything around me stopped! It felt like my heart did too,” Tevin said. “I almost fell off the wall I was sitting on. After countless dreams and working my imagination so hard it became a reality… and the rest was history.”

The Proposal

Romance soon followed, even if it required a little time to win maternal approval. Roxanne’s mother, Dorrett Samuels, was initially cautious about the relationship, keen to ensure her daughter’s studies did not suffer. However, as Roxanne continued to excel academically, any anxiety vanished. Beyond a simple promise to stay together, it was Tevin’s steadfast support through life’s difficult seasons that made her realise she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

“Like any relationship, we had our ups and downs. But we were committed to each other and knew how far we were coming from,” Roxanne said.

Although they both knew marriage was the ultimate destination, it still came as a surprise when Tevin proposed on November 25, 2023.

“He planned a regular date night to a restaurant and invited his older sister, Lateeka Hardware, out to have dinner with us. Upon reaching the venue, we were there kinda feeling out the place as it was our first time there and taking photos,” Roxanne recalled. “His sister decided to take a video of me to kinda show my outfit, hyping me up, and told me to turn around. When I turned back around, Tevin was down on one knee. I said yes before he even finished asking the question! I couldn’t have been happier! I had been waiting forever for this moment!”

The Wedding

Five months later, the couple discovered they were expecting, welcoming daughter Teraeya on December 14, 2024. Their marriage plans remained steadfast, culminating two years later in an intimate ceremony with loved ones at Hope Gardens. Despite a heavy downpour that challenged the proceedings, the couple’s determination never wavered. Walking up the aisle to Kina Grannis’s cover of Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley, Roxanne was breathtaking in a mermaid gown from Bliss Bridal Boutique. Under the guidance of wedding officiant Paul Blake, and undeterred by the dark clouds, Roxanne and Tevin exchanged vows.

The reception was highlighted by memorable toasts from loved ones, a spirited round of the newly-wed game, and Tevin serenading his bride to John Legend’s Stay with You. The couple cut their wedding cake before opening the dance floor to another John Legend hit, I Don’t Love You Like I Used To, bringing the celebration of their love and newly formed family full circle.

Roxanne and Tevin spent their honeymoon in Tower Isle, St Mary.
