Complex Ricki and Shane O turn up summer heat with ‘Different Ways

If social media chatter is any indication, Complex Ricki may have another hit on her hands.

The fast-rising dancehall artiste is generating major buzz with her latest single, Different Ways, a flirtatious duet featuring Shane O that has quickly become one of the most talked-about collaborations of the summer.

Packed with playful wordplay, undeniable chemistry and infectious Afro-dancehall grooves, the track has already secured playlist spots on several of Jamaica’s leading radio stations while attracting a steady stream of new fans since snippets first surfaced online.

“So far the feedback has been amazing,” Complex Ricki said. “I’m getting a lot of messages about how much people love the sound Shane O and I created together. Ever since I posted the first snippet on Instagram, the song has been gaining new supporters every day.”

The early response was so overwhelming that the pair wasted little time bringing the record to life visually.

“The buzz was crazy even before the song came out, so we knew we had to shoot a video,” she said. “Shane O has always been easy-going and supportive, so working with him was a great experience. The video is going to be amazing.”

Rather than relying on elaborate storytelling, the visual mirrors the song’s flirtatious back-and-forth format, allowing both artistes to play off each other’s verses with natural chemistry.

“The concept is really about us going back and forth,” she explained. “It’s about putting pride aside and admitting that you miss someone you’ve shared history with. It’s realizing you’re not perfect either and wanting to make things right.”

She also revealed that the project allowed her to showcase another side of her creativity.

“I had a lot of control over the styling and makeup, which was really exciting because those fashion ideas came from me. It was fun being able to express my own sense of style.”

The collaboration itself came together almost by chance.

According to Shane O, the connection began during a school tour after a mutual acquaintance introduced the pair.

“One of the street youths named Kevon linked us while we were on a school tour,” Shane O recalled. “I heard this sweet voice singing and immediately thought, ‘I’d love to do a song with this girl.’ From there we linked up in the studio and this song came naturally from that energy.”

For Complex Ricki, Shane O was the obvious choice from the moment she began writing the record.

“I met him about a month earlier during the school tour and he was constantly encouraging me,” she said. “He kept saying we should work together one day. When I wrote Different Ways, I already had him in mind because I knew what kind of writer he is and I felt he’d complement the song perfectly.”

She added: “He came into the studio, wrote his verse, and immediately I knew the whole song was a banger.”

While Different Ways is already making waves, Complex Ricki sees the single as just the beginning of a much bigger year.

She is currently putting the finishing touches on a new reggae EP that blends reggae with what she describes as “Afro-dancehall swing,” reflecting her desire to continue expanding her musical identity.

“My core audience is getting what they know me for, but in a completely fresh way,” she said. “I also don’t do a lot of collaborations, so Shane O is a really nice twist.”

She continued: “For most of 2026 I’ve been releasing reggae music while working on the EP, so it’s exciting for fans to hear this Afro-dancehall swing. Judging from the response to Different Ways, I think we definitely made the right choice.”

With radio support growing, social media engagement accelerating and a visually striking music video on the way, Different Ways appears poised to become another major moment for both artistes — and perhaps the soundtrack to the summer for dancehall fans looking for equal parts romance, rhythm and irresistible chemistry.
