TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Sprint legend Usain Bolt brought cheers to graduates of his alma mater Waldensia Primary and Infant School with a $1.7 million donation to the 2026 class.

The generous gesture was revealed during the school leaving ceremony this week.

“Each child will be leaving here this afternoon with $100,000!” a school official can be heard announcing in a video shared online.

The announcement was met with whoops and cheers from the gathered audience at Waldensia Baptist Church where the event was held.

“Usain Bolt is celebrated not only as one of the greatest sprinters but for his remarkable benevolence and generosity,” the school official noted, adding that Bolt had consistently used his position in life to uplift others.

“His acts of kindness demonstrate that true greatness is measured not only by personal achievements but also the willingness to make a positive difference in the lives of others,” she said, adding, “ Usain Bolt’s compassion, humility and commitment to helping those in need continues to inspire those around the world, reminding us that success is most meaningful when it is shared with others.”

Bolt’s mother, Jennifer Bolt, was present for the ceremony and played an integral part in lobbying for the donation, school officials indicated.

Bolt on Friday shared encouraging words for the youngsters via Facebook.

“Congrats to all 17 students from Waldensia Primary School in my hometown of Sherwood on passing their PEP [Primary Exit Profile] exams. Keep making your parents and community proud,” he said.
