Excelerate brings eCornell learning to Jamaican engineering interns
EXCELERATE Energy has extended its global partnership with eCornell to its Jamaican internship programme, giving 21 engineering interns across its local operations access to world-class learning opportunities through Cornell University’s professional development curriculum.
Through the Excelerate Futures: Global Leadership and Skills Development Programme, interns will combine hands-on experience gained across Excelerate’s local liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations with professional development opportunities designed to build leadership, business, and emerging technology skills.
The addition of the eCornell initiative to the company’s annual internship programme supports Excelerate’s commitment to developing Jamaica’s next generation of engineers and energy professionals, while equipping them with capabilities that will support their long-term career development.
Interns are placed in Excelerate’s LNG facilities across Jamaica, including the Combined Heat and Power Plant, the Old Harbour LNG Terminal, the Floating Storage, the Regasification Unit (FSRU), and the Montego Bay operations.
These placements provide practical exposure over a 10-week period to Jamaica’s growing LNG industry and the integrated operations that support the country’s energy sector.
As part of Excelerate Futures, interns now have access to eCornell courses and certificate programmes in areas including leadership, project management, business analytics, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and other professional skills relevant to careers in the energy sector.
“Excelerate has played a leading role in the development of Jamaica’s LNG sector, and sustaining the industry’s growth requires continued investment in people,” said Verona Carter, Excelerate’s vice-president and general manager-Caribbean.
“As Jamaica’s energy sector continues to evolve, we remain committed to helping develop the right talent and technical capability needed to support future growth, innovation, and success,” added Carter.
eCornell is Cornell University’s online learning platform for professional and executive education, offering certificate programmes developed by Cornell faculty and industry experts.
By expanding access to eCornell through Excelerate Futures in Jamaica, the company is giving early-career professionals another pathway to build skills relevant to careers in the energy sector.
