Strong support for Cholita’s Broken Promises EP launch

Singer Cholita hosted the launch for the release of her début EP Broken Promises last week Friday night at the trendy Mezza Luna at 110 Constant Spring Road.

The event was supported by members of the entertainment fraternity, social media influencers, and creatives.

Broken Promises, released on June 26 via US-based independent label Mixpak Records, known for its work with dancehall artiste Popcaan and several others, features six tracks.

“I feel super blessed by the turnout tonight,” Cholita told the Jamaica Observer. “It’s just touching to see my friends and family here and my co-workers from the entertainment industry as well. I am really hoping to get my voice and my music out there, because my aim is to create a vibe that people can relate to.”

Commenting on the project which features the songs Next Time, Without You (with Skillibeng), Déjà vu, No Second Chances, Too Damn Hard, and Never Come Down (with Popcaan), Cholita said she is appreciative of the support that she has received in bringing the EP to fruition.

“I’m feeling extremely grateful and very happy. Everybody has been super supportive along the journey and it’s just really a blessing to see that,” Cholita shared.

She also reflected on collaborating with Popcaan, who was also in attendance at the launch.

“It was super special. I am grateful that he was open to collaborate with me, especially with it being so early in my career. His iconic sound just added such a great element to the mood,” said Cholita.

The launch, which was guided by Brush1theroadmarshal, saw Cholita performing the song Never Come Down, much to the delight of the specially invited guests.

Mixpak Records boss Dre Skull, who discovered Cholita a little over a year ago, and who produced all of the tracks on the project (track 6, Never Come Down was co-produced by Grammy-winner Jonah Christian), shared his thoughts on Broken Promises.

“I’m amazed by the project. Cholita has such an amazing voice. She’s a great songwriter and she’s really got that ‘born star’ quality. Really, for me, what is first and foremost is the music. This project has been a great collaboration,” Dre Skull told the Jamaica Observer.

He further stated: “I’m taking notes and ideas from her, because I see her as an artiste making timeless music. I’m a big believer in great music.”

The launch was also attended by dancehall artiste Govana, music producers Nicholas “Zimi Nick” Mahfood, CJTheChemist; music video director Ruppi; Xodus CEO Pierre Goubault; corporate executive Dominic Bell; publicist and creative Odessa Chambers; recording artistes Rizik, Zac Jone$, Projexx, Joby Jay, Friday Night Cru, Amanyea Stines; DJs Kola Champagne and Gabby Russ Buss; and event organiser and artiste manager Carleene Samuels.

Cholita is nominated in the Best New Artiste (Reggae) category of the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards.
