Kevin Downswell readies new album, goes Steady on WYFL rhythm

Gospel artiste, evangelist, producer, author, and motivational speaker Kevin Downswell is gearing up to release a new album later this month. The project, which will be his sixth full-length studio project, is the follow-up to 2023’s Grace (Brought Me Here).

“Yes, I am working on the album, and it’s going to be something very special. It will be one for the books, and I am also dropping a new single on July 16,” Downswell told the Jamaica Observer last week.

In May, Downswell hopped onto the popular DJ Mac/Crash Dummy beat WYFL and delivered the buzzworthy track
Steady.

He shared that he was grateful at the response to the song.

“I am just truly grateful for the response,” he said. “This song is for the remnant, and it’s for anyone who feels surrounded by pressure, noise, trends, and spiritual warfare. If you’ve been challenged to compromise your true identity, and are fearful in this season, Steady is for you. The enemy wants us to be isolated, distracted, and unsure of who we are. But we will stand, Steady.”

Steady, he said, “is a rallying cry for believers to remember who they are, whose they are, and what they have been called to represent in the earth for such a time as this”.

Deeply rooted in scripture, the song’s message draws inspiration from, among other passages, Romans 12:2, “Be not conformed to this world, but be thou transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

As part of its 50th Jubilee Year Celebrations, Portmore New Testament Church of God, located in Bayside, Portmore, St Catherine, will present the Kevin Downswell pre-album launch worship experience on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

With a career marked by soul-stirring music and a powerful personal testimony, Downswell has become one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated gospel artistes. He was recently conferred with the Order of Distinction in the class of Officer by the Government of Jamaica on National Heroes’ Day last October. He also won the awards for Local Hit Producer of the year, Local Hit of the Year and Video of the Year at the 2025 Sterling Awards.

Among his string of hit songs are Bless Me, Midnight to Victory, My Year, Carry Me, If it’s Not You, Grace, and
You Make Me Stronger.

He is also the author of the books The Search Continues – The Journey and Midnight To Victory – 90 Day Devotional.

As an ordained evangelist, he recently earned a Doctor of Sacred Music from the Door of Favor Theological Seminary in New York, USA.

Beyond music, his Realignment Initiative focuses on abused kids whom he, his wife, and team have been mentoring and impacting since 2017.
