Jamaica to face strong Canadian team in FIBA World Champs qualifying game
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaica must beat second round qualifiers Canada in Monday’s FIBA World Championships Americas Group B game in Canada, if they are to keep their chances of advancing to the second round.
Jamaica are coming off a lopsided 49 points, (123-74) loss to the Bahamas in Nassau on Friday and are in third place on seven points, in the four team group.
Canada led with 10 points from five straight wins with the Bahamas ahead of Jamaica, both on seven points, with Puerto Rico on six points in fourth place.
Bahamas will host Puerto Rico at the Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau.
Canada will be led by former NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, with a number of other NBA players on the roster including Nickeil Alexander-Walker of the Atlanta Hawks, Andrew Nembhard of the Indiana Pacers, Dillon Brooks of the Phoenix Suns and Kyshawn George of the Washington Wizards who formerly represented Switzerland .
