Different labels, one dream
Diandra Johnson from DNJ Records and Shaine Lawson of BhadGadRecord

Different labels, one dream

Two sisters building their own legacy in music

Long before they were producers, record label owners, or creative partners Shaine Lawson and Diandra Johnson were simply two sisters with a shared soundtrack.

Music filled their home long before it became a business. They spent hours listening to songs across genres, dissecting lyrics, discovering new artistes, and imagining what life in music might one day look like.

At the time, those moments felt ordinary. Looking back, they now realise they were laying the foundation for careers neither fully understood they were preparing for.

Today, that childhood bond has evolved into something far more ambitious.

Operating under their respective imprints — BhadGadRecord and DNJ Records — he sisters are preparing to unveil the first collaborative project between their independent labels, a body of work they hope will introduce them to a wider audience while marking the beginning of a new chapter in their careers as producers.

Although they share the same dream, they made the conscious decision to establish separate record labels rather than build one company together from the outset.

For them, independence came first.

Each wanted the freedom to discover her own creative identity, develop her own approach to music, and build a brand that reflected her individual vision. Only after growing separately did collaborating feel like the natural next step.

“We’ve both grown so much individually,” Lawson explained. “This felt like the perfect moment to combine everything we’ve learned.”

Johnson agreed, saying the partnership isn’t simply about convenience or family ties.

“We share the same dream,” she said. “This collaboration allows us to combine our strengths, support each other, and create something bigger than what we could have done individually.”

Their paths into production were different, but somehow perfectly complementary.

Johnson always envisioned herself behind the boards, fascinated by the process of creating music from the ground up. Production wasn’t an afterthought, it was the goal from her teenage years.

For Lawson, the dream looked different.

She loved songwriting and once imagined herself becoming a recording artiste. Over time, however, she realised her passion wasn’t necessarily found in the spotlight. Instead, she discovered fulfilment in shaping songs from behind the scenes, helping artistes bring their ideas to life while remaining deeply connected to the creative process.

Without realising it, the sisters had developed two different pieces of the same puzzle.

Instead of chasing validation, they have invested in sharpening their skills, building relationships, and consistently producing quality music.

“Every project we complete and every opportunity we earn builds our credibility,” Lawson said.

For Johnson, worrying about perceptions only distracts from the real objective.

“Our mindset has always been to stay determined and focused on our craft,” she explained. “Hard work, consistency and results speak for themselves.”

That philosophy is now driving what they describe as their most intentional project yet.

While careful not to reveal too much before its release, both say the upcoming collaboration reflects their growth — not only as producers but as women.

They’ve experimented with new sounds, embraced creative risks, and approached every song with purpose.

The music, they hope, will resonate with listeners wherever they find themselves in life.

Whether someone is celebrating success, healing from hardship, or simply chasing a dream of their own, they want the songs to meet people in those moments with honesty and encouragement.

The project also builds on a growing catalogue that already includes releases such as Duppy Man Step by Feloni19,
Mill to a Billion by Adofo, 530i by Well Bad, and Boujie by Vigilant, while upcoming releases including Bitcoin by Merkz, Press by Bellwetha, and Zeus Network by AI Milly continue expanding the reach of both labels.
